Chief Minister N.Biren Singh

Chief minister, N. Biren Singh urged all sports associations to work collectively to improve their performance instead of falling into conflicts and adopting divisive policies among themselves.
He made the statement during the 2nd foundation day of World Funaba Federation cum state level Funaba Championship that was held at Indoor stadium Khuman Lampak today.
Delivering his speech as a chief guest of the function, he said that the role of local clubs and sports associations in promotion of sports in the state is enormous. But many sports associations of the state have not maintained unity and integrity; they are rather interested more in following groupism, he said. This kind of trend has affected the career of many sportspersons of the state.
Speaking on the recent medal tally of the state, he stressed that the performance of the sports players of the state is not really impressive for this year as the medal tally has been reduced and it was dominated by Haryana. It is a great setback for the state, so we should not take this very lightly, he added.
He suggested that we seriously need to discuss the performance of sports persons by holding seminar for two-three days. This will help to find out the reason of decreasing in the performance and solutions of improving its status as well.
He further suggested that it is not really necessary that the high post of sports association should be held by the senior most sportsperson if he or she does not work seriously. The state also has many talented, young and energetic sports personalities who had acquired world class skills. So, even they can also lead the sports associations.
He appreciated and encouraged the president of World Funaba Federation (WFF), Ranbir Laishram for taking an endeavour of preservation and promotion of Funaba, a traditional martial art of the state at international level.
As a part of the programme, WFF handed over an ambulance key to Biren donated by federation.
Arjuna Awardee in Wushu, M. Bimoljit Singh, Wushu player, Y. Sapana and Archery player, Paonam Lily Chanu were also felicitated with cash rewards and 62 other Wushu players were distributed cash awards at the function.
